plump calyxes of rosella
Native to Australia and commonly made into jams is a plant called Rosella. It's related to hibiscus. I have never eaten it before, and this season was the first time growing. They say the calyx is ready to harvest when it measures about 1-2cm across. I've cut off a couple which have flowered and whose seed pods inside are getting big. The pointy petal-like bits were all pointing outwards, even though in images, the points are usually closed over the seed pod, touching at the centre. There were also a few smaller calyxes that fell off during the storm, whose petals had already started withering but still intact.
I will wait a few more days before collecting the rest that still need some more time to mature.
