daikon flowers
This is what a flowering daikon radish looks like. The distinct four-petal formation clearly show that it's from the Brassicaceae family. This one was planted amongst the broccoli as a seedling. At first, this whole patch was growing fairly slowly, but the last couple of weeks, the broccoli leaves have matured and become huge, not leaving much light for this middle daikon. While most of the other daikon leaves splayed out, the leaves and stems of this one shot straight up like a tall poppy, hoping its next generation will have more luck in its placement in the garden.
Perhaps the term "hoping" doesn't do it justice. Really, it's actively striving to maximise opportunities for propagation. Message received; [I, the gardener] will do better next time.
