there is now comfrey in the grounds

I finally found some comfrey plants, and surprisingly, it was just on gumtree that I found a lady who lived only 10 minutes away who had some. I brought some rosella seedlings and pigface cuttings to swap with some comfrey and turmeric. She also gave me a branch of her hibiscus tree to make some cuttings (and some tea)!

Her backyard was well cared for - it had a circle of raised garden beds full of all sorts of veggies, compost bins and worm farms. But best of all, she had chickens!! No eggs were laid today though.

Her interesting chicken setup was like this: a 1m-wide perimeter strip (offsetting the yard fence) was caged in for the chickens so that they had a further distance to roam. So, the henhouse was in the corner, there was a central area surrounded by chickenwire, and then there were two perimeter strips, one leading from either side of the henhouse. She said that not only do the chickens get more space, they also eat up all the weeds in the grass. One day I'll have chickens too.

In our conversations, I also mentioned that I had just germinated some luffa seedlings and explained some uses for it. Note to self: drop some off to her when they're a bit bigger.

Tried some hibiscus leaves - they don't do so much as a tea, but the taste of the leaf itself is very tart/tangy, with a taste that is a bit similar to sweet potato leaves. They say it works well cooked in a stir-fry or in salads.
